The quality of the roads fully depend on the season. They are totally not the worst but full of surprises.

There is no autobahn, so following the speed limit is vital.

There is a typical for the countryside local danger - wandering cattle. It is highly recommended to drive slowly and carefully, especially at night. It is even better not to drive at night at all.

There is no car service in Katon; shops and gas stations are very rare.

Cafe and restaurants are rare too. There are several good places to eat in the village itself.

Community Based Tourism is rapidly developing in the region. Each of the guests houses are unique, interesting and authentic. Overnight stay at the guest house is a perfect opportunity to learn more, deeper, about local customs, to listen to local legends and myths.

However, Katon is a countryside, so banya or sauna and privy is common in the area.

When traveling to the countryside it is absolutely NECESSARY to have enough cash with you.

Despite 2 ATMs in the village (1 in KazPochta building, 1 in the Akimat (City Hall) building , they run out of cash quickly. You can pay with bank cards only in the supermarket on the main Abay street. You need to pay cash everywhere else.
