"Honey Spas" Festival
"Honey Spas" Festival

What is this outlandish holiday?

The holiday is called Honey, because the honeycombs in the hives are usually already filled with honey by this time, and the beekeepers begin to collect it. It was believed that if the beekeeper did not break the honeycomb, then the neighboring bees would pull out all the honey. According to the tradition, from that very day it was allowed to eat consecrated honey.

“On the first Spas, a beggar will try honey!” The beekeepers had a whole rite of consecration of honey on this day. In the morning, beekeepers made the sign of the cross over the hives, choosing the richest among them. Having chosen a hive, they “broke out” the honeycombs from it and, putting aside some of them, carried them to the church. After the mass, the priest blessed the "new news" and consecrated the honey brought in the combs, and the clerk collected the "priest's share." Part of the consecrated honey was immediately handed over to the beggars, congratulating the beekeepers on the Honey Spas. Then the holiday continued in the apiaries, with crowds of children and teenagers. They received a "child's share", and sang songs after that.

Welcome to Honey Spas - the First International Festival in East Kazakhstan!

The Honey Spas festival will be held on the territory of a peasant farm in Klimovo, located on the mountain slope of the beautiful Bukhtarma Valley. Here, around the small chapel, volunteers will set up sheds, huts, tables and benches for the festival participants. Throughout the day, guests will enjoy a variety of “honey” master classes, animation programs, a tour of a real apiary, an exposition about the origin of beekeeping in East Kazakhstan, a folklore program with performances by dance and vocal folk groups, honey tasting and a large honey fair.
